Al amanecer del 23 de enero de 1962, cinco días después de su salida del puerto de El Havre, el trasatlántico “France” arribó a Santa Cruz de Tenerife en su viaje inaugural y fondeó al resguardo de Anaga, a pesar de que el puerto tinerfeño ofrecía todas las garantías de seguridad para que pudiera atracar.
